Don’t give your power away just because it feels easier. It’s really not. Instead, it’s more tiring, disempowering, and a waste of time better spent otherwise.
The best guidance you can give yourself comes from within. (It goes without saying, there are situations in which you should always reach out to specialists.) But in the rest of the cases? It’s better when you use the same time, effort or money you invest in paying others to offer those services for you, into researching those things instead.
Honestly, it’s a power move to read far and wide anything you can on the topic that interests you. Educating yourself on the information available everywhere and using your discernment to filter through it. Sure, there are those rare gems of people (trainers, influencers, coaches, etc) whose excitement and passion invigorates everybody they come into contact with and they’re the real deal to work with, but what of the rest? Nobody else will have as much interest, fire and dedication into making sure that you get the best deal out of that sport, scripting language, domain, and so on.
What I’m saying is, people all too often undercut their own value by assuming the grass is greener on the other side, and that others must know more than they do – or can know. Or worse yet, they think another person can offer the ultimate answers to x and y subject. And the truth is, that is never the case, because we are all human and always evolving and discovering new things in science, biology, medicine, etc every day. There are always new ways, new answers, new possibilities. Don’t just take another’s answer at face value, as the dead-end or be-all end-all to a question.
We’ve all been there. It’s something I have to keep reminding myself often; especially after I rationalize not doing so by saying “I don’t have time to invest all the time and research into that area as well”, but you know what, in the end it’s more worthwhile spending all those small intervals of daily idleness – on the bus, waiting in line, break at work – into such a productive outlet, than scrolling through social media over posts, photos or people that bring no positive value to your life.
At the same time, it is also a very subjective matter, as not everyone has the resources (time, patience, money) or even the desire (which is equally legitimate), to tackle a new domain and learn everything they can about it, and that is totally fine as well. Everybody has their own approach.
But for me this has always been the way to go, time after time realizing that I work best when I trust in my own my strength, integrity and intuition, to always improve upon everything. Think about it. How do you feel when you trust your gut, when you know your worth, your boundaries, your greatest goals crystal clear? It feels wonderful – because you’re working with yourself instead of against yourself! And that makes a world of difference.
The best thing about this strategic mindset of growth, though? The only way you can move is up, up, up.
