Welcome to 2021 my amazing glow up queens! To work in tune with my Mindset Glow Up Challenge on Instagram and Tumblr, today we are having a peptalk that may be much-needed, on why some of you keep failing your yearly goals.
Today we will make sure we have all the tools we need for succeeding at our goals for 2021, and that begins with understanding (and overcoming!) what the most common obstacles are. This way, you’ll avoid making the same mistakes year after year and wake up in late December reviewing your progress and wishing you had done better.
No TLC for this article, ladies – it’s January, and it’s time to get down to business with that potent CEO energy that Capricorn season blesses us with…
1. Lacking Intention

When it gets down to it, accomplishing any sort of goal begins with deciding that you want to make it happen! It really is that simple. Making the conscious choice of “Yes, I want this” is the foundation, the mental blueprint you need to get started on any goal. Our minds are incredibly powerful and highly responsive to any stimuli, any affirmations, any narrative – in other words, any kind of content we expose it to.
Solution: When you lack intention, there is no mental blueprint to build upon. So then, review your list of goals for 2021 and decide: do you really want to make them happen or not? Yes? Congrats babe, you’re already one step closer to your success!
2. Not putting in the work

We can all agree that bringing your greatest dream(s) into manifestation will require at least some level of effort. Whether the bulk of that is on the mental plane (defeating any mental barriers regarding self-worth, possibilities; or scarcity mindset in general), physical one (the actual hard work) or emotional one (mental health, emotional wellbeing, etc) – either way you need to invest energy into nourishing and watering this newly sprouting idea, so that it can one day grow into fruition.
Solution: starting on the work always begins with the 1st step. Remember that it’s always about progress, and progress means each day making one step towards your goals. Creating a plan for a goal isn’t rocket science. First just define what you want the end result of that goal to be, then break down that goal into bite-sized chunks across your chosen length of time, and there you go! You have a solid plan to get started. As you see, you don’t have to jump from A to Z. Baby steps are just as great, as long as they’re consistent. Which brings us to the 3rd most common reason that yearly goals fail…
3. Lacking Consistency

Consistency is another staple of make a goal happen. For instance, if you want to reach xyz fitness results by the end of 12 months, you’re not going to get there by working out like a maniac in January and February, then skipping the following 9 months entirely, then working out 2 times a day every day of the week for the last month. Your results will of course be all over the place. For consistent results, put in consistent work.
Solution: in this case, what would most help is discipline and due planning. Whether it’s writing a book, churning out a certain amount of artwork, videos or anything else, the key to success lies in planning. Now that you have a strong intention, and solid planning, all you need is a practical schedule that works for you. You know what the tasks are (through the plan created at step 2), you just need to integrate them into your daily/weekly/monthly routine. Whether you are doing this full time, or balancing other personal & professional commitments in the meantime, figure out what schedule works best for you, and keep yourself accountable for it. Remember, you’re doing this for you.
4. Excuses

“I don’t have enough time.”
“I don’t have enough $$$.”
“I don’t have the required resources.”
“I have too much going on right now.”
If you’re familiar with any of these statements, know that you’re doing yourself a disservice by adopting these mental barriers, and basically settings yourself up for failure by not even giving yourself the opportunity to try. If you feel in your gut that now is the time to make those Big, Juicy, Incredible goals happen, then ladies… stop clicking Snooze on your own happiness and success!
Solution:
Not having enough time – Draw up a list of all your commitments this year, general or specific, and then learn to prioritise them. Is there anything on that list that isn’t essential? Is there anything on that list that should come after accomplishing your amazing goals? Review, revise, prioritise. Understand that even investing 1 hour per day or week, will get you closer to accomplishing a goal than if you simply gave up. If you really want to make it happen this year, then you’ll need to make some sacrifices and compromises in terms of what you invest your energy into (because you’re prioritising it). And just as importantly, don’t let anyone dissuade you from your focus on these goals. Don’t let anyone shrink or belittle them. Only you get to choose what you prioritise in your life, period.
Not having enough $$$ or resources – This depends on what particular goals you have set for yourself. But understand that the biggest challenge here is a scarcity mindset. Replace it with a growth mindset and realise that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. There are so many possibilities out there in the world, so many ways to achieve things. There isn’t only one way to make something happen. If your mindset is right, you are opening yourself to endless opportunities. Now in 2021, we live in the age of information. You can find information on the internet about literally anything, for free. How to start a youtube channel? No problem, you can find countless videos on YouTube itself. How to start a business? YouTube. How to xyz? Google it, Wikipedia it, Pinterest it. You can find online courses, libraries, guides, resources for free. All you have to do is search for it. Furthermore, you can learn from other people’s experiences. Just ask, most people are happy to advise on how they achieved xyz. If you’ve analysed it from every angle and you still need $$ to get started, for now adjust your goals to progress slowly. Start small, start smart, but start.
Too much going on – This is a judgement call. It’s your personal choice whether now is the right time to get started on a list of powerful goals. Maybe you’re working full-time, attending college, and are experiencing high-stress in your personal life too. Think it through, and decide whether it’s the right time to work on those big goals. Always, always keep in mind your selfcare and your highest wellbeing. There’s no use accomplishing all your goals if you have to bend over backwards and destroy your mental health in the process. No way, baby. This goes without saying, you (you integrally, your wellbeing) always come first.
Good luck in your exciting new goals! You’ve got this, ladies.
