Self Love Ideas for Valentine’s Day

As beautiful as romantic love is (or dreaming about finding your soulmate, in case you haven’t already), the truth is the only person you’ll always have in your life no matter what… is yourself.

Everything begins from your own self. The love, respect and standards you cultivate for yourself are the reservoir that overspills into every other aspect of your life. That includes relationships.

So if you deny aspects of yourself, if you don’t honor your own needs and boundaries, if you say no to spoiling yourself any chance you get, chances are you’ll find it challenging to shower that love onto someone else. Or you might do it decently, but with grudging resentment — because you’re actually doing it so you receive those things in return, the way you’ve always wanted. And when (or if) you don’t, hell breaks loose. Sound familiar?

No relationship, not even friendships, can operate from a place of lack. Learn to fill your cup before you fill someone else’s. You can’t self-abandon and then get angry at others for not choosing you…they’re just treating you the same way you treat yourself!

Here are 8 ways to celebrate yourself & your divine feminine energy with self love ideas for Valentine’s Day… regardless of whether you’re single or in a relationship!

1. Take yourself out on a date

While this may not be for the faint of heart, once you’re brave enough to get out of your comfort zone, it can be quite rewarding.

Making a habit of taking yourself out on dates can fill that need for dressing up, looking polished, feeling appreciated, getting some special treatment. It doesn’t always have to be another person!

It can feel nice to put on your favorite dress with your make-up snatched and your hair looking fabulous, all while enjoying a fancy cup of tea or antreé. Add a book or a journal to the mix, and you’ve got yourself a lovely afternoon.

Don’t let the judgement and insecurity of other people hold you back from validating your own love language (gifts, quality time).

2. Spa Day

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to enjoy self love ideas for Valentine’s Day, plan a spa day at home.

Get your nailkit, all your skincare and haircare, and go crazy. Scrub, massage, and lotion every inch of your skin until you feel squeaky clean and like a goddess incarnate. Just don’t forget to have fun while at it! Put a cute headband or bonnet on, some catchy music to get you in a dancing mood, and make sure nobody will interrupt your me-time.

Here’s a couple of ideas to get started:

  • manicure
  • pedicure
  • coconut oil hair treatment
  • rosemary oil hair treatment
  • clay facemask
  • lip mask

3. Self love letter

If you’re more poetically inclined, a lovely ritual to strengthen your commitment to yourself is by writing a self love letter. Drop by the nearest craft shop, pick up a pink envelope and paper, and get into it.

Take your time writing a letter that you can always go back to and re-read, whether it’s in one month or ten years.

You can customize your self love letter, or if you want a ready-made template just use my lovingly written “Manifesto of Self Love” below. Print it out to keep with you always, to remember your promise to yourself! 💞

4. Spoil yourself

One of the best self love ideas for Valentine’s Day is just doing something that brings you joy.

In today’s age we tend to underestimate the importance of spoiling yourself, especially as a woman. From a young age we’re taught to be of service to others, to nurture and heal and help others, and often forget to include ourselves in this equation!

Make it a habit to spoil yourself, by using Valentine’s Day to lean into the energy of self-love and joy. Do activities that make you feel happy and pampered and taken care of like a princess.

This can differ from person to person, so whatever it is… pick a couple of activities, and then give yourself 100% permission to indulge in them whole-heartedly! No guilt, no buts, no what ifs.

This could be a day to burrow into the cozy blankets of your bed and binge-watch shows, it could be buying that fancy skincare or jewelry you wanted, it can even be pulling up a bubble-bath with your favorite music to sit with your thoughts in peace for 1 whole hour.

5. Get your nails done

Celebrating yourself doesn’t have to be complicated.

It can be a fun, girly activity like going to the salon (or getting your nails done at home). As long as it’s an activity at the end of which you feel prettier and more in touch with your feminine energy, you’re on the right track!

6. Have a photoshoot

What cooler way to celebrate yourself than putting on some make-up, your favorite power-outfit and doing a fun photoshoot with your bestie that you will always remember?

Carve out a whole day for this activity, invite a few more friends if you want!

One can bring the coffee and outfits, another can do the make-up, and whoever has a great eye for detail can handle the camera… all while spilling the tea and enjoying belly-aching laughter.

7. Galentine’s dinner

If you’ve never heard of a Galentine’s dinner (Valentine’s for Girls), it’s a beautiful way to celebrate the friendship between women. Whether they’re single or taken, bring your besties over for a candle-lit dinner with fresh pink roses on the table, some delicious pasta and relaxing jazz (or Hz music to uplift your vibration #multitasking).

Talk about your goals, business, health, whatever your heart fancies. It’s the girls’ night out, but with heart-shaped cupcakes and candles in the arms of your couch with fluffy blankets.

8. Femininity circle

If you want to take the Galentine’s dinner to a whole new level, bring journals to write about profound, vulnerable topics and then share the findings. You’ll find it can be incredibly transformative.

It can include questions like: “What are you most afraid of?”, “What are you most proud of this year?”, “What’s something that brings you shame in the past year(s)?”, etc.

You can also do a guided meditation together, breathwork, yoga, or similar self love and selfcare-based activities that bring you closer together and helps you connect with your divine feminine. It’ll be an evening you’ll always remember, because nothing compares to the nurturing, welcoming safe space of a feminine circle — speaking from experience.
